Hello how are you fellas!! Welcome one more time to your favorite internet TV program Vagabundeando!
I´m Juan Carlos de la Mora. This time we´ll be in a mythical and legendary place in Mexico City. So...
To Wander away!
As you already know the Alameda (central mall) is one of the places most crowded in Mexico city a
place for the amusement, to have fun and traditional walks.
I don´t know what you think about it, But after its last remodeling the fabulous Central Alameda (Central Mall)
looks very nice, it is my favorite place for walking through on bike.
In XVI century, The viceroy Luis de Velasco conceived the idea to create an amusement place for city inhabitants.
He sent to sow poplars, but due their growth of this specie, he sent to move them and sow willows and ash trees;
nevertheless the alameda (central mall) didn´t lose its original name. Years later under inspiration of Versailles gardens
the viceroy Francisco de la Croix sent to put founts, up to now are emblematic in this plaza.
What do you think fellas Who has not stopped to enjoy shade of the trees or walking alongside your couple,
friends and relatives tasting a delicious ice cream and sit on its park seats to enjoy a good book.
The Alameda (central mall) has become so popular that today it is very requested by several
music groups that gather thousand of persons to have a meet and greet each other and enjoy nice music.
In 1775, the viceroy Carlos Francisco de la Croix extended the side roads of Alameda (central mal) which it took a rectangular shape instead of square
one that had gotten previously, in the same way he sent to construct interior roads and four new founts were constructed.
Later to do a better use of this place the president Benito Juarez put the illumination and years later
Porfirio Diaz sent to construct The Hemicycle dedicated to Juarez.
Do you want to know some historic data about Juarez Hemicycle so don´t go away after the break we are going to know them, we´ll be right back!.
Other historic monument within The Alameda(central mall) is the emblematic Benito Juarez Hemicycle which was inaugurated in 1910.
One of the most emotive moments of Independence bicentennial celebrations was the
inauguration of the monument dedicated to Mr. Benito Juarez Garcia, who lived a very important times of Mexico,
considered it by many historian as consolidation era of the Nation as Republic; therefore it was made a decision about construction and
inauguration of a monument dedicated to his memory, it would be a turning point of that celebration.
The one was inaugurated on September 18, 1910, in a solemn ceremony leaded by the president Porfirio Diaz before U.S.A, Spain, Argentina and Guatemala ambassadors.
The majestic sculptural set 7 meters height and 70 tons weight was constructed in Carrara marble during 10 months,
It was about Guillermo Heredia´s project and settled at south of The alameda (central mall) before there was Moorish kiosk that was moved to Santa Maria la Rivera´s alameda (central mall).
Its style is art noveau with semi circular platform, Greek influence; the structure has twelve columns Doric style,
the sides have two golden urns in the center area there is a sculptural set Italian Lazzaroni´s work, can be seen Benito Juarez sat, leaning strongly over the land,
there are two allegories, the glory celebrates republic´s triumph putting a crown over Patricio´s forehead and the Republic its sword lies on land,
meaning the end of Independence battles while its right hand rises a progress torch up.
At center of scalloped base there is a sculptural set preceded by a wide open wings republican eagle and over
resting two proud lions; in the central body a medallion surrounded by two laurels. In this way was finished and
inaugurated that nowadays is the most important monument dedicated to Benito Juarez Garcia, itself
welcomes to those who come to Downtown by this important route called Juarez avenue.
As you can see I´m with some walkers in the alameda (central mall) thanks to be here; how has it been you experience here?
It feels very nice to visit our country and know the new facilities.
In fact what do you think about its remodeling? Besides it is beautiful isn´t it?
Yes of course it´s very nice, it looks awesome!
So, say hello to the camera please, and invite to come here! We´ll be right back friends!
At right side from The alameda (central mal) we can see the majestic and awesome Palace of Fine Arts
which gathers different architectonical styles such as art noveau.
Designed it by Italian Adamo Boari, the palace of Fine Arts is an infinite example of yearning for the art in Porfirio Diaz times.
Originally it was a project will have been finished in four years to celebrate Independence day
but cause soil subsidence and military struggles the construction was postponed until 1934.
In this awesome building are carried out many painting, sculpture, photography and conceptual art exposures
as well as concerts and dance performances, opera, folkloric ballet and theater from entire world.
Therefore it is the major cultural precinct in Mexico in addition shelters the national museum of architecture
in fourth level and also a restaurant and bookstore.
The Alameda (central mal) has been since its creation a meeting point for all social classes in Mexican society,
the alameda is integrated by its leafy trees and beautiful fonts that have seen to pass many fashions and ideas through the years.
"Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda" (Dream of Sunday Afternoon in the Central Mall ) is a mural painted by Diego Rivera in 1947.
where he captured all characters of Mexican society through their history.
Unfortunately during the earthquake in 1985 this mural was moved.
On Doctor Mora street, now became in a comfortable pedestrian road, it was settled a copy,
smaller scale of the famous mural made it by Diego Rivera in 1947. The original one measures 74 square meters
is sheltered in the nearest museum in charged to preserve artist´s work. If you are curious you
can see from left to right important characters of Mexico history all of them roaming for corridors of this old garden.
