All right, guys. Come take a look at the Hauppauge HVR 850 and the HVR 950 Q.
Now, there's not much of a difference between the two,
but the obvious actual difference is this remote control right here.
And that's the difference between the two.
So make sure, if you're looking at this video and you're going to order one of these products,
make sure you're looking at the right model number OK?
The 950 Q has the remote control, The 850 does not have a remote control.
Besides that, they're identical.
Now, ironically enough, I talked to the guys from Hauppauge,
and they told me that there's actually no difference between these two.
When you look at the box, it shows a difference.
And it shows that this one doesn't do clear QAM which is the 850.
But, they decided to tell me that it does do clear QAM.
So you have the ability to do that on this video capture card with no problem,
or this TV tuner.
Now, let's talk about actually what you can do with something like this,
'cause it has a lot of different uses.
Now, first of all, HDTV is the first thing you're going to be able to pull off of here.
So you can plug in your HDTV antenna, which is included, OK?
That's the NTSC antenna right there.
And that's going to give you 1080i high-definition over-the-air television.
All the major cities already have it and next year we're going to be switching over to it nationally.
So every over-the-air TV is going to be in digital
And you're going to able to get hi-def 1080i as well as dolby audio from those transmissions.
Now, the other thing you can do with this device is input cable.
Right there you can do an NTSC cable, which is your analog cable,
or you can do clear QAM which are the unencrypted digital cables.
So if you have cable in the house
and if you don't have a set-top box to get the HBOs and the cinemaxes,
it's going to do just the regular channels: All the stuff that's just part of your basic cable
It will be able to input that all through there
as well as all the analog cable you can throw at it.
(If you still have analog cable.)
That's also, partially, you know, you can do that on here, no problem.
Now, besides the antenna the two are the same.
So I'm going to keep going like if this was identical products.
Also included in the box you get a USB cable with both of them
and with both of them you also get this HDTV antenna,
which is going to be pretty much for your over-the-air, NTSC, analog, sorry digital cable.
Now here's the big one.
This is what takes it to the next level for just about everyone.
This is their disc. It's installation it's drivers basic stuff, but it's got a lot of utilities.
Now, to get it out of the way:
it does work in vista, it does work in xp and it works in media center as well.
You can use it with your vista media center also.
Now, what's on here? A ton of software.
First of all, software to personally, to do PVR pretty much.
To record all your videos from whatever source you have.
And it's also got a scheduler, a TV scheduler, so that it figures out:
"Hey, what's on at this time? Here are all the shows,
I'm going to record this and this."
And it'll just record them for you automatically.
So, as you can see, you pretty much plug it up into your laptop,
and you hook up the little tiny antenna, and you get HD over-the-air.
And it works fantastic,
you can record all your programs on it and do all of that good stuff.
Or if you want you can import, you can put your cable into it,
wether it be analog or digital with a QAM, it'll do it,
and you pretty much got a full screen mode and look at that, it looks great.
It's HD. It even says it: HD.
Right there, that's HD.
That stands for... Hairy Dog.
So great product. Really cool. I love the fact that it actually works,
'cause I've had some bad luck with some of the other brands of TV tuners,
especially ones that are USB powered.
This is the one that's been the easiest to get running, and it's worked so well.
Really like it a lot.
The Hauppauge.
Don't forget, let's get this straight:
The 850 HVR, the HVR 850, is... this one. OK? That one does not have the remote control. OK?
Remember: No remote control.
This one is the 950 Q. This one does come with the remote control.
The best way to tell the difference between the two
is to look at the picture on the box.
Remote. No remote. Remote...
(No remote.) No remote.
That's how you can tell the difference. Awesome products from Hauppauge.
Great if you want to watch TV on your laptop.
