Good morning brothers and sisters, welcome again to AldoNarejos.com
Today we will talk, finally, about the controversial topic of the music in 432 Hz.
The aim of this study is to answer the following question:
Are we facing a simple trend without foundation or it is a proven reality?
I have been researching this topic for months. I have been surfing the net, I have consulted
professors of neurology, history of music, acoustics.... and, to avoid beating around
the bush, I
will start with the conclusion I have reached.
Most of the information circulating through the network about this topic is ... #beating
of
drums#... FALSE!
Before we get into the ins and outs of this issue, let's see, what is this thing of music
in 432 Hz?
To do this, we will see a brief summary of one of the many videos circulating the net
in which
the claimed benefits of the music in 432 Hz are disclosed. If you click on it, you could
see the
whole video.
TEXT OF THE VIDEO
"The Nazi Joseph Goebbles created a universal decree in 1939 by which everyone was urged
to
tune the musical "LA" at 440 Hz instead of 432 Hz.
All the music so far was tuned to 432 Hz.
Since 1939 to nowadays notes have been set at the frequency of 440 Hz.
The music we listen tuned to 440 Hz creates a disharmonious frequency with the planet
and
the human body.
Notes makes 12 harmonics when a note is played tuned to a LA tuned to 432Hz.
When playing in a LA tuned to 440Hz, there are only 8 harmonics.
The music tuned to 440Hz is a very poor music.
This frequency of 440Hz is not the natural frequency of the human being, in fact it generates
adverse effects!"
Have you heard the music of this video? It is very relaxing, right? At the beginning
it says that is
tuned to 432Hz. It turns out that it's not. It is tuned to 440Hz.
This shows that whoever uploaded the video is really out of this topic. The ones who
may
know how to do it can check easily that this track is, indeed, in 440 Hz.
Is it better music at 432Hz than music at 440Hz?
Having analyzed the arguments given in favor of this music in 432Hz, I can only say that
it's
not. Why? Because the arguments used to defend it are inconsistent and in some cases even
absurd.
This does not mean that music in 432Hz is not the ideal frequency of the human kin and
the
Earth but if it is, it has to be proven.
Now let's go one by one dismantling the main arguments that are put to defend that the
music
in 432Hz is ideal for the planet and for human beings.
The Nazi Goebbles decrees the change from 432Hz to 440Hz.
There never was a standard tuning of 432Hz. Before standardization at 440Hz, there were
plenty of references of tuning. For example, and as the story of the music tells, the sound
of a
church bell has been used for centuries as a reference for tuning. Therefore, in each
village or
in each city we could find different tuning references for instruments, equivalent to
429, 430,
450, any tone.
Evidence of this fact is the large quantity of old forks that exist with different tunings.
This is an
irrefutable proof since a tuning fork does not go out of tune over the years.
On the other hand, I have found no evidence that it was the Nazi Goebbles who decreed
that
change. What it's known, and it is reported, is that in 1936 an international conference
was
held recommending the tuning standardization in 440Hz and that in 1955 the international
organization for standardization officially took this pattern to set such standard in
Therefore, standardization at 440Hz met the demand of thousands of musicians who needed
a
universal reference to be tuned rather than a dictatorial decision of a Nazi.
This makes a lot of sense and I will put an example: Imagine a factory of recorders in
Madrid
and another in Paris. Recorders cannot be adjusted in their tune once they are built.
If
recorders from Madrid were tuned to 432Hz and the ones from Paris to 438Hz, when flutists
from Madrid and Paris meet up the result would sound similar to this:
Try to grasp the difference. Between one flute and the other there is a difference of
approximately one-third of a tone. If you have trouble perceiving the difference, repeat
the
listening. When they play together you should perceive the dissonance.
For this reason musicians would have limits when playing with other musicians and instrument
makers would be lost for not having any reference. Being able to go and play anywhere in the
world and know that you'll find a standard tuning, is a cornerstone for cultural enrichment
and
fusion of music. So that thing about that the Nazi Goebbles, just because he said so,
forced
everyone to play at 440Hz, is as false as absurd.
The Earth vibrates at 8 Hz, therefore the ideal frequency of music is 432Hz.
As the earth vibrates at a frequency of 8 Hz, therefore, the best music is tuned to
432 Hz.
This is as absurd as to say that since I am 29 years old in case of fever I will never
reach over
39 degrees. Since A is 8, B is 432? Based on what formula? Which formula is that? Nobody
explains it.
That is why I contacted a professor of acoustics. As he told me, the only relationship that
could
think of, which it could be true, is that 432 is a multiple of 8. But if the formula
was that one it
turns out that 440 is also a good multiple 8.
So in this case, the tuning in 432 Hz would have no advantage over the one in 440 Hz.
However, let's leave open the possibility of an unknown formula that relates the frequency
of
the Earth with the frequency of music. It's said that the frequency of the Earth is 8
Hz. That is
also untrue.
The Schumann frequency, or frequency of the Earth, is variable in time and space. Today
I can
have in my yard a frequency of 7.7 Hz and within a couple of months it may change to
8.2 for
example. On the other hand, while in my home I have a frequency of 7.7, you can take in
yours
a frequency of 8.1. If there is a formula yet to be clarified, it should be applied
to the frequency
you register at each point in time and in every place on Earth. To do this, we would
need to
measure the Schumann frequency with some easily transported device.
Bluntly, imagine that I'm going to give a concert, I arrive in Madrid and say "come
on, I'm
going to tune on the ideal frequency of the Earth and the planet", grab my frequency meter
and "PIPIPIPI" The earth is vibrating at 7.7, then I use the formula "pipipi" and says,
"you have
to tune in 437", I tune my guitar in LA at 437, tune the whole guitar and give a wonderful
concert vibrating with the planet.
Now let's see another thing that the defenders of 432 say:
The 432 Hz frequency has 12 harmonics while 440 Hz only 8 harmonics.
This is stated categorically but it is false, the number of harmonics depends on the timbre
of
the instrument and not the height at which it is been played.
The relative importance of frequency in tuning.
To determine whether a track has more or less quality, sailing on the ship of subjectivity,
we
can find many variations.
- Harmony, if it is complex or simple
- Melody, the same, if complex or simple.
- Rhythm, if it is constant or varies
- Lyrics, if poetic or rough.
- Frequency Tuning, 432 or 440.
- And instruments used, whether they are natural, artificial or even digital.
In all the articles I've read about the music in 432 Hz it is given a superlative importance
to the
variable frequency, above the rest of the variables we just saw.
So according to them, this that we're hearing, would harmonize our body and mind...
And yet, this other music might get on our nerves.
Well brothers and sisters, as you can see I have not turned my black *** from the fire
in all
afternoon, and it is true what the gossips say: I'm pretty cold-sensitive, mates.
I still have some loose ends and we shall see them further on. I hope your contributions,
your
questions, comments, etc ... about this interesting topic.
And I hope, of course, that it has been helpful and that you all had a good time.
Thank you very much and a musical hug! See you later!
