Yo normalmente escribo solo un guion, y por eso estos subtitulos están en ingles. Disculpas!
I love this game. I adore this video game so much, and that fact that it was released
around the time I bought a Wii U was one of several reasons that made me proud to own
the system whatever other difficulties and problems it might have.
I played 3D Land, and I'll be honest, while it was a game I really enjoyed, it didn't
really wow me. 3D World wowed me.
3D World took the 3D Land formula and just made it feel so much more expansive. Things
like the overworld, or level variations like the Plessie levels, the savannah level, the
Captain Toad levels that got their own spin off. Then you add in the new collectibles,
the boss battles and especially the escalating intensity of the final Bowser battle, and
Champion's Road. So even if it was a merger of the 2D Mario style with the 3D Mario aesthetic,
it still felt grand.
Visually the game has the same classic cartoon Mario look, but with HD flourishes. Musically,
even though the tracks aren't as memorable as say the Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze's
music, it was still very close to that level, particularly Histocrat's theme.
And I will add that I thought it was a good idea that Peach was playable. I thought this
was a game where her characterization was done right. In my limited experience with
the franchise, there's basically little to no character development for any character
in most main Mario platformers, and that's also the case here. What characterization
we have in 3D World is all based, for the most part, on the introduction cutscene and
whatever phrases the characters occasionally say. And I thought that for once Peach didn't
get treated badly as a character. She got the same amount of characterization as Mario,
Luigi, and Toad, the other three similarly situated main characters, which is as it should
be. If you're going to have a female character, it's fair to say that character should have
the same amount of development as similarly situated male characters. If the female character
is a main character, she should get as much development as male main characters; if she's
a secondary character, she should get as much development as male secondary characters.
Here Peach is the first one to jump into action to go help the Sprixies, which I assume is
a result of her knowing how horrible it is to be kidnapped all the time and wanting to
help, but which more importantly gives her of being able to take meaningful action. It's
both sad and a little funny to hear her battle quotes before facing Bowser each time. I think
one of the quotes is "It's about time!" Which is true. It is about time.
I think my only disappointment with the game is something that may not be fair to criticize
the game for. The main concept of 3D Land and 3D World is merging 2D and 3D Mario, and
I think both games do that well, with 3D World as sequel properly doing it better than its
predecessor. But there's a part of me that thinks the game would have been that much
better if they had just done a complete 3D Mario game, with an actual overworld that's
more than just a overworld map. That said, I think that's me judging the game based on
what I wanted it to be and not based on the project the developers set out for themselves.
Judging the game on the basis of what it appears the project was that the developers set out
for themselves, I think the game excelled at their goals.
