Whitening your teeth in the comfort of your own home can be just as effective as making
a dreaded trip to the dentist office for a costly visit of whitening applications. In
fact, you do not even need to spend up to $50 on over-the-counter teeth whitening products
to gain the whiter and brighter smile that you desire. To get the results that you want
from your teeth, you can use natural remedy ingredients that you likely already have in
your home. One of the most popular home remedies for gaining whiter teeth is a mixture of hydrogen
peroxide and baking soda.
Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda as a mixture is very effective when used for teeth whitening.
As most people known, hydrogen peroxide bubbles or foams. This foaming is due to the fact
that hydrogen peroxide turns to oxygen and water. The foam from the peroxide helps to
break down any particles or film that is covering the teeth. It reveals the bacteria under these
particles and film so that tooth brushing can rinse or wipe them away.
Baking soda is just abrasive enough to safely scrub your teeth without causing damage to
the enamel. It is also a good acid neutralizer and microorganism killer. Therefore when they
are combined, they show great results for a happier and healthier smile.
To combine your baking soda and hydrogen peroxide mixture for brushing, begin by placing a few
drops of peroxide in a cup. On top of the peroxide, add a tablespoon of baking soda.
Mix the two together to form a paste. Dip your toothbrush into the paste and brush as
you would if you were using toothpaste. Rinse your mouth well after using the peroxide and
baking soda mixture. When finished, complete your teeth whitening treatment by brushing
your teeth with fluoride enhanced toothpaste as normal.
Using the mixture once a week will show effective whitening results. Be cautious about not using
the mixture for each brushing. Because of the abrasiveness of the baking soda, it can
irritate the gums and wear down the enamel if used too often. It is also important not
to brush too hard while using the peroxide and baking soda mixture. Brush your teeth
gently using circular motions just as you should when using regular toothpaste. In addition,
keep from swallowing the mixture, just as you should not swallow toothpaste, to a minimum.
